Canadian prime minister Mark Carney

Mark Carney will address plenary in a formal sitting starting at 11.30. Speaking about EU-Canada relations at a time of growing geopolitical tension, Carney is expected to focus on shared security and economic interests. Earlier this year, MEPs called for stronger EU-Canada cooperation to address security challenges and boost trade. The European Parliament announced on Monday that it will be opening an antenna office in Ottawa to strengthen parliamentary relations between the EU and Canada. The sitting will also be attended by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. You can follow the address on Parliament’s Multimedia Centre website.

A press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled for 12.30.
