Key debate: effectiveness of EU sanctions on Russia

From 9.00, MEPs will discuss with Commissioner Reynders and Spanish deputy minister for EU Affairs Navarro on behalf of the Council Presidency whether the EU’s sanctions against Russia and its political and business elites are working, and how to prevent Moscow from circumventing them.

MEPs to demand a solid EU budget for 2024

Around 13.00, plenary will debate the draft EU budget for 2024 with Commissioner Hahn and Spanish deputy minister for the EU budget on behalf of the Council Presidency. MEPs demand a properly equipped budget so the EU can deal with the impact of the war in Ukraine and continue supporting SMEs, youth, and research. Parliament will adopt its position in a vote on Tuesday. Talks with the Council will begin in November, with the aim of having next year’s budget approved and signed by 31 December.
