Internationalisation begins with understanding
Entering new markets is becoming increasingly relevant for small and medium-sized enterprises. Yet internationalisation does not simply mean attending a business mission, meeting a potential partner or opening a commercial contact abroad.
It means understanding the territory in which a company intends to operate, learning about local stakeholders, rules, market dynamics, cultural differences and business practices. Above all, it means building relationships that can be assessed, verified and developed over time.
This is precisely the area in which Conflombardia PMI – Il Sindacato della Comunità intends to progressively strengthen its ability to inform, guide and connect businesses within its network with professionals, organisations and qualified counterparts capable of opening new perspectives.
A business network that must also look beyond national borders
Conflombardia was created to protect, inform, train and promote businesses, professionals and self-employed workers.
In an increasingly interconnected economy, promotion must also include the ability to create knowledge and relationships with new territories and markets.
Senegal and West Africa represent, from this perspective, an area of growing interest for businesses. At the same time, it would be a mistake to believe that such markets can be approached simply through intuition or by relying on the first available contact.
Conflombardia’s objective is not to present international markets as easy opportunities.
The objective is to help create a network through which businesses can better understand territories, potential partners and initiatives, and then independently assess whether the conditions exist for developing a project.
The National Agreement with WAFRIK
It is within this framework that the institutional collaboration between Conflombardia PMI – Il Sindacato della Comunità and WAFRIK, represented in West Africa by Global Cargo SUARL, Dakar, Senegal, has been established.
The National Agreement provides the general institutional framework within which the parties may develop initiatives, projects and activities of potential interest to the Conflombardia network.
The agreement provides for the possibility of developing institutional events, seminars, conferences, workshops, communication and awareness projects, guidance activities and initiatives aimed at promoting business culture.
At the same time, each party maintains its own legal, organisational, administrative and operational autonomy.
The Agreement therefore creates a framework for collaboration without establishing an agency relationship, representation agreement, company, association or other form of organisational integration between the parties.
WAFRIK as a point of connection
For Conflombardia, the value of this collaboration goes beyond simply referring businesses to a commercial operator.
WAFRIK operates within a project aimed at strengthening connections between Africa and Europe and can represent one of the channels through which businesses can gain greater knowledge of territories, establish relationships and identify opportunities for dialogue between economic operators.
The Agreement therefore allows Conflombardia to add an international dimension to its network while clearly maintaining a distinction between the institutional activity of the Union and the independent business or commercial activities carried out by the partner.
This distinction is essential.
Conflombardia does not replace the company, the consultant, the exporter or the investor.
Its role is to help create an environment in which businesses have access to more information, more qualified relationships and better conditions for making informed decisions.
The Agreement and WAFRIK’s independent initiatives: two distinct areas
This point must remain particularly clear.
Events, B2B programmes, networking activities and other initiatives independently developed by WAFRIK or by organisations working with it do not automatically become services included within the Conflombardia National Agreement.
The specific services covered by the Agreement are those defined in the dedicated operational documentation and annexes.
Conflombardia may nevertheless inform its members about initiatives organised by WAFRIK, provide editorial visibility through its communication channels and assess their potential interest for businesses because WAFRIK is part of its network of institutional partners.
This distinction makes communication stronger and more credible.
It allows opportunities to be promoted without confusing Conflombardia’s institutional role with the role and responsibilities of the organisations directly delivering individual activities or services.
Building opportunities, not selling promises
Conflombardia’s approach to internationalisation is consistent with the philosophy behind its National Agreements.
The starting point must always be the real needs of businesses.
From there, the task is to identify competent stakeholders, create relationships, provide information and build a network through which companies can explore new opportunities.
The decision whether to proceed remains with the entrepreneur.
Every company must assess its own objectives, resources, risks, contractual framework, financial sustainability and the reliability of potential partners.
For Conflombardia, supporting internationalisation therefore does not mean promising results.
It means helping businesses make better-informed decisions.
From Lombardy to new international relationships
The collaboration with WAFRIK represents another step in a wider process through which Conflombardia intends to progressively strengthen its international relationships.
The starting point remains the territories, businesses and professionals represented by the organisation.
But being rooted in a territory does not mean remaining confined within its borders.
It means having a strong starting point from which to create new relationships.
Conflombardia will therefore continue to provide information about initiatives developed by WAFRIK whenever they may be of genuine interest to businesses and professionals within its community, while maintaining full transparency regarding roles, responsibilities and the scope of the National Agreement.
